Went to the doctor’s. Described symptoms. Doctor alarmed. Took blood pressure, believing it at the 3rd attempt. Wrote out forms for ECG, blood tests, etc., ticking boxes marked ‘within 3 days’. Told to call ambulance ‘if anything happens’. Told to carry cellphone for this purpose.
Doctor: Is there any history of this sort of thing in your family?
I: Oh, my word, yes. My father’s in and out of the cardiology clinic, and my mother ticks like a pantomime crocodile because of her replacement heart valve.
Doctor: You never told me any of this!
I: You never asked.
Blogging may be intermittent while I explain to an endless sucession of medics that when I get my hands on the committee which designed the human body, I’m going to want a few words with them; among the first of which being ‘warranty’.
That must have been frightening!
I went to my doctor because I wasn’t feeling well, he took my blood pressure twice. I knew then that it had to bad, and it was.
I was given a blood pressure pack to take home and take my own blood pressure 3 times daily for a week. Well, I saw the result!
Very high pressure. I was given tablets and within two months it was back to normal. He told me to watch what I eat meaning less salt and healthier foods, but I do that anyway. I said that I thought high blood pressure came from stress. He disagreed, but I still think it does.
We are all under a lot of stress aren’t we?
I have to have my blood pressure checked every three months now and luckily it’s o.k.
P.S. I smoke so you can imagine what he said about that!!!
We are under a lot of stress. Some of it is caused by being messed around by doctors (the correct term, I’m told, being iatrogenic).
In my professional opinion as a former technical author you need not worry about the smoking but if I were you I’d get something done about those exclamation marks.
