My compliments to An Englishman; I was beginning to wonder whether I might be the only one. Unleaded petrol I could live with (though obliged expensively to convert my old Land-Rover), but unleaded solder is really rather like wheat-free bread, or deoxygenated air. Whatever will they think of next? Fortunately I have a good stash of the old stuff.
As to the disappointing LHC, I would remind An Englishman of the standard analytical procedure of the university laboratory technician:
If it gnawed through the bars, ate some lecture notes, broke down the door, bit a College servant and escaped onto the moors, then it was Biology.
If it dissolved its container and the bench beneath it, subsequently eating its way through the floor and the pipes and wires contained therein, finally ending up rendering the boiler-house uninhabitable without a Noddy suit and respirator, then it was Chemistry.
If it still doesn’t work, it’s Physics.
