This may have some connection with a curious little story which I heard on the Radio 4 news at 0800 today, but of which I can now find no trace on the BBC’s website, about a ‘proposal’ to deal with the sloth and inefficiency of the civil service, and its consistent failure to implement government policies properly (one cannot help but remember Harold Wilson and the ‘Whitehall mandarins’) by sacking all the senior civil servants and replacing them with political appointees put up by the Labour party.

Indeed it is. I’ve no idea why I couldn’t find it. Perhaps the BBC website automatically recognises me as its enemy.
