At Old Holborn, commemoration of an anniversary.
A commenter, Dave A, suggests:
Just had an idea. Devil’s Kitchen does quite rightly does www.fakecharities.org rather than being nihilistic can we/you do www.realcharities.org?
This is a good idea but setting it up is beyond me (I’m really rather better with a set of spanners). However, I have created a link category called ‘Real Charities’, and have started it off with the RNLI, of which I have the honour to be a Governor.
The Americans have the website:
http://charitywatch.org/
which I have been told is rather good, it would be nice for there to be a UK version but it would indeed be a lot of work.
There’s a thing locally called “Medicine and Chernobyl” which has a charity shop. other than that I know nothing about it, except I’ve never seen it anywhere else. It seems to be run by some old ladies. Perhaps it too is a real one?
Oh and there is the “Southport Lifeboat” charity shop here too.
This boat is not supported at all, even by your lot! (Why, I have never fathomed…?) (Bad pun)
This business of boats raises another issue. If lifeboats, why not deathboats?
Let’s send deathboats to “do over” the Pirates and stuff, currently wreaking merry havoc in the Western Indian Ocean and elsewhere.
There are a number of completely independent lifeboats. I have heard that in Weston Super-Mare, which is blessed with whole square miles of its own mudflats and quicksand, they have an independent lifehovercraft. So the story goes.
I didn’t know. I thought ours was the only one and was pissed off. 73
