According to Old Holborn, everyone is already doing this, so I am probably late.
Top 5 rock albums:
1 Emerson, Lake and Palmer: Emerson, Lake and Palmer
2 Magma: Mekanik Destruktiw Kommandoh
3 Emerson, Lake and Palmer: Brain Salad Surgery
4 Yes (with Patrick Moraz): Relayer
5 Premiata Forneria Marconi: Photos of Ghosts
Pretentious, complicated and classically-based: now that’s what I call music…
Someone else who likes Relayer ! Mind you, it took about ten years for me to ‘get’ it
Patrick Moraz once did a solo album called ‘i’, distinguished by an intro to the first track that is about ten minutes long. He was the best thing that happened to Yes, who were otherwise quite dull. The solo album is interesting, if you can find a copy, but not as good as Relayer.
I’d better get round to doing one of these…
my mum has ‘brain saladsurgery’. lovely artwork but i only liked one track on the record.
Oh, that’s true (it’s Ginastera’s ‘Toccata’, in my case). If one had to like every track on a record before buying it then our record collections would be rather smaller.
I suppose we could do another meme about ‘records we bought just for one track’.
I’d substitute Genesis’s Nursery Crimes for Brain Salad Surgery. Number One would have to be King Crimson’s Lark Tongue in Aspic.
