I cannot help but notice that this is the second time that the Ambush Predator has referred to a story in the Daily Mail about professional beggars.
This is not a new phenomenon; I would call to the Predator’s attention The Man with the Twisted Lip, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
See here, /begging/ certainly is no less a ‘profession’ than whatever it is Ms Shoesole does in Haringey!!
I think that professional begging can be a jolly thing and on all fours with any other sort of busking. It is part of the entertainment industry after all, as the Doyle tale tacitly demonstrates, and it had ought to be viewed as such. Indeed, one imagines a system of awards and ceremonies on telly every year, ‘Best Scam’, ‘Best False Penis Amputation’, ‘Best Former NuLayabout MP’ and so forth. /Freedom/ means a competitive open market here, too, and those who perhaps who think the streets should be ‘cleaned up’ are perfectly free to organise in-doors superior charities to provide at least for the less talented, and them anyway off of the streets.
(The Salvation Army gets my mite everytime, every time!)
With you all the way there, bro. Nowhere near enough real entertainment any more. I tend to draw the line at mime, though.
